FIND, Inc. District 3
Ms. PI & Mr. PI
Mr. Philippines & Ms. Philippines are both annual pageants within FIND, Inc.’s District III. During undergrad, I’ve had the honor of hosting Mr. PI from 2019 to 2020 as IFA’s Production Chair & participating in Ms. PI 2021 as Ms. NYU IFA.
Mr. PI 2020: The Roaring 20s was the first virtual pageant & virtual district-wide event. To build awareness, the team created an Instagram, where we revealed contestants, promotional videos, & Instagram story takeovers leading up to the event. Aside from event planning, I created a content strategy & delegated towards contestants & a team of 10.
In Ms. PI 2021: Chrysalis, held virtually due to COVID-19, I conceptualized, recorded, & edited to create performances for all 3 portions. Competing against 19 representatives from NYC/NJ colleges, I won the title of Ms. Philippines 2021. As a result, $2,858.74 was donated to my organization of choice, Frontliners’ Kitchen.

ms. pi 2021 gown walk
The gown walk is limited to 1min as the contestant presents oneself in one’s gown. This portion is graded on personality, elegance, & creativity.
In this piece, I hoped to showcase my personality in a creative, non-traditional style. I put together a “choose your fighter” sequence found in video games in order to showcase multiple characters that I play in my own life, unlocking the character of Ms. NYU’s IFA and my favorite places to be in NYC and Jersey City.

ms. pi 2021 cultural portion
The cultural portion is limited to 1min & 30sec. This portion is graded on Filipino culture, execution, creativity, & adherence to the theme: Chrysalis.
To avoid sounding disingenuous, I told a story true to me. Inspired by “Free Churro” from the fifth season of Bojack Horseman, I modeled this narrative as a eulogy to my grandpa, telling the story of Filipino resilience through the life of someone I looked up to. Through this portion, I was given the opportunity to say what I should have said when I was at the podium at age thirteen.

ms. pi 2021 talent portion
The talent portion is limited to 3min. This portion is graded on execution, creativity, & adherence to theme.
I utilized the talent portion to tell my college coming of age story. During my first year of university, I tried really hard to fit in: rushing sororities, joining clubs, applying to welcome programs. Ultimately, I just wanted to find friends, & by my senior year, I had found them by being involved in & passionate about District 3.
Inspired by Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade, I began with a video diary similar to the ones I used to make whenever I was feeling down. The performance transitions into a song about hoping to be someone better. For visuals, I reenacted films about hope & yearning. Similar to the characters, I discover that the friends I had been searching for this whole time, I always had. I simply just had to look for it.
